Can strategy games really work on a phone?
Strategy has always been a big-screen genre. Cramming a battlefield onto a phone sounds like a bad idea, and honestly it often is. But some designs adapt smartly instead of shrinking a PC layout.
Tideline Command is the one that convinced me. Instead of a sprawling map, it gives you a coast, a fleet, and route-drawing you do with your finger. The interactions are built for touch from the ground up.
The key is fewer, deeper decisions. A phone can't show you fifty units at once, so the good mobile strategy games make each unit and each choice count more. That constraint can actually make a game sharper.
It also helps when a game pauses cleanly. You get interrupted constantly on a phone, and strategy that punishes you for stepping away just won't survive on the device.
